By adding our enzymes to new pours of concrete, we extend the life by at least 4 times with only a 10% increase in cost and do not negatively affect plasticity or cure time. We use an amount of enzyme equivalent to a couple of drops of water. Other crystalline additives manufacture their products and ship to you with a suggested dose of 40lbs per cubic yard of concrete. Whereas you only need a couple hundred milligrams of our catalyst to rapidly form calcium carbonate within your concrete as it cures. We less expensive, good for the environment (sequester CO2), have zero negative effects on the concrete and require much less product. Our goal is to make Enzymatic C3 the “Advil of Concrete”.

Carbonic Anhydrase for Self-healing Cement

Our bio-based additive uses carbonic anhydrase (CA) to turn ambient CO₂ and the calcium already in cement into limestone (CaCO₃) crystals that grow inside the matrix, stitching micro-cracks and sealing pores – including trapped air pockets – so concrete gets denser and stronger from the inside out. This mineral self-healing closes pathways for water and chlorides, helping stop corrosives before they reach the steel – protecting rebar and extending structural life. In lab evaluations, CA-driven healing cut permeability by ~45% and extended service life up to 2.5×, while the enzyme continues catalyzing reactions over time and contributes to CO₂ uptake as the concrete heals.

Concrete fortified with our Enzymatic Additive will heal itself utilizing direct air captured Carbon Dioxide while curing which may prevent cracks from forming. The results of multiple Chlorine Penetration Tests and Accelerated Corrosion Tests performed by WPI predict concrete with our EC3 will last at least 4 times longer, capture carbon and will not negatively affect plasticity or cure time. Concrete will last much longer with only a slight increase (approximately 10%) in cost.
